The beginning of spring, which occurs every year during the Passover holiday, is a time of transition, change and renewal in nature. This renewal also radiates to our inner world and this is reflected in the desire to renew and refresh the appearance of the house, for example by repainting it. However, like many other things related to the design of the house, planning in advance and knowing the field before buying the paint, will prevent sadness and unnecessary waste of materials, labor and precious time.

Which color to choose?

Almost all the colors offered on the market today are non-toxic, environmentally friendly and without a pungent smell as it was in the past. Especially if it is about painting a children’s room, it is preferable to use water-based paint that is environmentally friendly and not oil paint. In addition, water-based paints allow sleeping in the room the same day it is painted, dry faster and are more convenient to use. If it is a room exposed to moisture – such as a bathroom – a breathable and antibacterial paint should be used, and if there is already moisture – use a remover and fungicide ( antifungus ) and anti-mold and fungus paint ( bacterinol ) to prevent the development of mold and fungus over time.

It is recommended to use an acrylic paint with two-way “breathing” capacity, which allows the evaporation of water and moisture from inside the house and from the outer wall to the outside and allows air to pass in. It also has the additional important advantage of being able to seal small capillary cracks in the wall. However, the use of acrylic paint for walls that are painted with lime only, requires the use of a binding primer ( Denbrol ) to wait for the wall to dry completely and only then use the acrylic paint  ( Denbrol 4000 ).

What color to paint?

One of the common reasons for customer disappointment is that the color shade received on the wall is different from the one shown and chosen in the color fan in the store or in the catalog. The reason for the difference is mostly the lighting differences between the store and the house. Also, as a general rule, on larger surfaces, colors become a few with a darker shade. To avoid disappointment, you can ask for a color sample before buying, paint in a hidden place and thus get an impression of the true shade you will get.

Choosing a color is mostly a matter of personal taste. However, even in matters of personal taste, the following data should be taken into account:

• The color should also match the color of the flooring, windows, doors, curtains, furniture and sofas in the room.
• Light colors – white, cream and cream – are the most popular in Israel as they instill an atmosphere of calm and cleanliness and they also create a feeling of “coolness” suitable for the Israeli climate.

How much paint to buy?
